This year's first program is the othuvar viza 2016. This is held on the third or fourth week of January every year. Othuvars from different areas of chennai gather at Tambaram. The program started with the breakfast. After that all gathered at the Karpagavinayagar koil. Nalvar and the Panniru thirumurai were taken round the temple. The othuvars recited thevaram in the temple. After this they all gathered at Thiruvachakam illam. This year 9 othuvars were present. Mr. Kotilingam and Kuthalam Subramaniya othuvar were also present.
Everybody was given a chance to sing thevaram. It went on from 10.45 am to 12.45 noon. There was Maheswara pooja at 1.00 noon. In the afternoon Vayalur Balachandran gave a Neyar viruppam. He explained many things in the thevaram recital tradition. It went on up to 5.45 pm. Then the viza came to an end with the honouring of the othuvar by Prof.T S Rajagopalan.
